FREE North Carolina DMV Practice Test #14 Page 3 of 5
The DMV practise exams in North Carolina have been updated for January 2024. It includes questions based on the most important traffic signals and legislation in the North Carolina Driver Handbook for 2024. To study for the DMV driving permit test and driver's licence exam, use actual questions that are very similar (often identical!) to the DMV driving permit test and driver's licence exam.
Each question on the practise exam has a tip and explanation to help you recall the ideas. Questions about traffic rules, traffic signs, and driving statutes, as well as knowledge from the Driver Handbook, will be included in the written portion of the official North Carolina DMV test.
You must properly answer 32 of the 37 questions to receive a passing mark. To help you prepare for your instruction permit or driver's licence, take this practise test from the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles.
The DMV exam is offered in a variety of languages.
Using any form of testing help will result in an automatic fail, and the DMV may take further action against your driver's licence, so avoid it.
18 . To prepare for anything coming up on the road ahead, you should:
Your ability to handle dangerous traffic situations depends largely on searching for and identifying problems before meeting them. Looking far ahead of your vehicle does not mean you should simply stare at the center of the road. You need to continually scan the entire road, including the sides of the road.

Unless a posted sign indicates otherwise, a traffic signal displaying a red arrow means that drivers must come to a full stop and remain stopped until a green light or green arrow appears.
20 . Anything that requires you to ____ could cause you to crash.
Anything that causes you to take your attention away from driving, take your eyes off the road, and/or take your hands off the wheel is a distraction.
21 . You are driving on a divided multilane highway and see or hear the signal of an approaching emergency vehicle. You should:
If you hear the siren or see the flashing lights of an emergency vehicle, you must slow down, provide a clear path for the vehicle, and stop. Don't try to outdrive the emergency vehicle.
22 . This sign is used to prevent:
This sign warns that a road has one-way traffic and you must not enter from your current direction.
23 . This sign means:
Warning signs prepare drivers for upcoming road conditions and hazards and are usually yellow with black markings. This sign warns drivers that there is an upcoming sharp turn and that they should lower their speed accordingly.
24 . Allow a larger space cushion than usual when stopping:
You should allow more space in front of your vehicle than usual when you are stopped on an uphill slope. If the vehicle in front of you rolls backward toward your vehicle when traffic begins to move again, it is less likely that there will be a collision.
25 . What can speed along the process of alcohol leaving a person's system?
Approximately 90 percent of the alcohol in your body is eliminated by the liver. It is eliminated at a constant rate and this rate is about the same for all persons: about one drink per hour. It cannot be eliminated any faster.
