FREE New York DMV Practice Test #12 Page 2 of 3
New York's DMV practise examinations have been revised for January 2025. It includes questions based on the New York Driver Handbook's most significant traffic signals and legislation for 2025. Use actual questions that are very similar (often identical!) to the DMV driving permit test and driver's licence exam to study for the DMV driving permit test and driver's licence exam.
On the practise exam, each question gets a tip and explanation to help you remember the concepts. The written component of the official New York DMV test will feature questions about traffic rules, traffic signs, and driving statutes, as well as knowledge from the Driver Handbook.
To obtain a passing grade, you must correctly answer 14 of the 20 questions. Take this practise test from the New York Department of Motor Vehicles to help you prepare for your instruction permit or driver's licence.
The DMV exam is available in several languages.
Using any kind of testing assistance will result in an automatic fail, and the DMV may take additional action against your driver's licence, so stay away from it.
8 . To avoid traction loss on wet roads, you should:
To prevent hydroplaning, lower your speed in response to wet roads and keep your tires in good condition. If you detect a loss of control, take your foot off the gas, do not apply the brakes, maintain the direction of the vehicle, and allow the vehicle to slow to a manageable speed.
9 . While driving at night, a vehicle coming toward you has its high beams on, making it hard for you to see the road ahead. You should:
If an oncoming driver fails to dim their high beams, you should avoid looking directly at the headlights. Instead, look toward the right edge of your lane and watch the oncoming vehicle out of the corner of your eye.
10 . This sign means:
This sign indicates that you must keep to the right of the upcoming divider.
11 . Which vehicles must stop at all railroad crossings?
School buses (with or without passengers), transit buses with passengers onboard, and vehicles carrying explosives or flammable cargo must stop at all railroad crossings.
12 . What is the only way to reduce your blood alcohol concentration (BAC)?
The only method that effectively reduces your BAC is to not drink alcohol for a period of time. Coffee, exercise, and cold showers cannot reduce your BAC or change the effects of alcohol. They can help you remain awake, but they cannot change your BAC or make you sober.
13 . If you need to slow down while driving on a slippery road, the first thing you should do is:
To slow down on a slippery road, you should first take your foot off the gas pedal. If you need to slow down even more, gently apply a slow, steady pressure to your brake pedal.
14 . Yellow lines separate:
Yellow lines mark the center of a road used for two-way traffic. A solid yellow centerline indicates that drivers may not cross the line to pass. A broken yellow centerline indicates that drivers may cross the line to pass, but only if passing would not interfere with traffic.
