FREE New Jersey DMV Practice Test #18 Page 3 of 7
New Jersey's DMV practise examinations have been revised for January 2025. It includes questions based on the New Jersey Driver Handbook's most essential traffic signals and regulations for 2025. Use actual questions that are very similar (often identical!) to the DMV driving permit test and driver's licence exam to study for the DMV driving permit test and driver's licence exam.
On the practise exam, each question gets a tip and explanation to help you remember the concepts. The written component of the official New Jersey DMV test will include questions about traffic rules, traffic signs, and driving statutes, as well as knowledge from the Driver Handbook.
To obtain a passing grade, you must correctly answer 40 of the 50 questions. Take this practise test from the New Jersey Department of Motor Vehicles to help you prepare for your instruction permit or driver's licence.
The DMV exam is available in several languages.
Using any kind of testing assistance will result in an automatic fail, and the DMV may take additional action against your driver's licence, so stay away from it.

Locations where it is unlawful and unsafe to pass another vehicle include hills, curves, intersections, and railroad crossings.
16 . You must not drive your vehicle at a speed greater than:
You must not drive at a speed that is faster than is reasonable and prudent. You must drive at a speed that is appropriate for the area where you are driving, the type and condition of surrounding traffic, the presence of pedestrians, the weather, the quality of the road, and light conditions. You must drive within legal speed limits.
17 . The Child Passenger Safety Law requires children who are under the age of four and weighing less than ____ to be restrained in a federally-approved safety system.
The Child Passenger Safety Law requires children who are under the age of four and weighing less than 40 pounds to be restrained in a federally-approved safety system. This may be a rear-facing or forward-facing seat with a five-point harness and must be in the rear seat of the vehicle.
18 . If an approaching train is near enough or going fast enough to be a danger, you must:
You should look and listen for trains before crossing any railroad tracks. If an approaching train is near enough or going fast enough to be a danger, you cannot go across the tracks. This is true even if they have no signals or the signals are not working.
19 . While driving, your wheels slip off the edge of the road. You should:
If your vehicle begins to leave the road, continue to drive with the wheels off the pavement and reduce your speed by gently applying the brakes. When at a safe speed, turn the steering wheel to return to the pavement. Do not attempt to force your vehicle back onto the pavement by sharply turning the steering wheel.
20 . When parking your vehicle downhill on a two-way street:
When you park on a downward-facing slope, turn your wheels sharply toward the side of the road. This way, if your vehicle starts to roll downhill, it will roll away from traffic.
21 . To be safe when crossing a railroad, you should:
Railroad crossings are always dangerous. Drivers should look and listen for an approaching train coming from either direction before proceeding across the tracks. Watch for signals indicating an approaching train and never proceed until you are certain it is safe to do so.
