If you cannot avoid hitting an object on the roadway, you should try to meet it at as close to a 90-degree angle as possible. Slow down before contact, make sure your motorcycle is straight up and down, rise slightly off of your seat to allow your joints to absorb some of the impact, and roll the throttle slightly just before impact to lighten the front end.
