FREE South Dakota DMV Practice Test #21 Page 2 of 3
The DMV practise exams in South Dakota have been updated for January 2024. It comprises questions based on the most important traffic signals and laws for 2024 from the South Dakota Driver Handbook. To study for the DMV driving permit test and driver's licence exam, use actual questions that are very similar (often identical!) to the DMV driving permit test and driver's licence exam.
Each question on the practise exam has a tip and explanation to help you recall the ideas. Questions about traffic rules, traffic signs, and driving statutes, as well as knowledge from the Driver Handbook, will be included in the written portion of the official South Dakota DMV test.
You must properly answer 20 of the 25 questions to receive a passing mark. Use the South Dakota Department of Motor Vehicles' practise exam to help you prepare for your instruction permit or driver's licence.
The DMV exam is offered in a variety of languages.
Using any form of testing help will result in an automatic fail, and the DMV may take further action against your driver's licence, so avoid it.
9 . You are driving behind a motorcycle and want to pass. You must:
When passing a motorcycle, allow a full lane to the motorcycle. Never crowd into the same lane as the motorcycle. Returning to the original lane too soon can force a rider to swerve to the right and into traffic or off the road.
10 . Accumulating ____ on your license within a 24-month period will result in the suspension of your license.
Certain offenses committed while driving will count against a driver in South Dakota's system of suspending driver licenses. If a driver accrues 22 points or more within a 24-month period, their license will be suspended. Lengths of suspension vary based on how many offenses the driver has committed.
11 . In traffic moving at 50 to 55 mph, you are least likely to have an accident if you:
You should adjust your speed to travel smoothly with the other traffic on a roadway (provided that the other traffic is driving within the posted speed limits). Remember that vehicles moving in the same direction at the same speed cannot hit each other. Crashes involving multiple vehicles often happen when some vehicles are traveling at different speeds than others.
12 . Crosswalks are:
Crosswalks exist whether the lines are marked or unmarked. You must stop behind a crosswalk to allow any pedestrians to cross.
13 . When are drivers required to use their headlights?
Headlights must be used from one half hour after sunset until one half hour before sunrise. They must also be used at any other time when visibility is less than 200 feet.
14 . You should drive on the shoulder to pass a car:
Passing on the right is permissible only if it is possible to do so without driving off the roadway. Never pass another vehicle on the shoulder because the other driver will not expect you to be there and may pull off the road.
15 . Excessive speed:
Excessive speed is one of the most common contributing factors to vehicle crashes. Excessive speed does not save time and often leads to high-risk decision-making.
16 . Distracted driving is:
The term “distracted driving” refers to driving while anything takes your eyes, hands, or mind away from the task at hand. Distracted driving is the most common contributing factor to reported traffic collisions. Distractions of any sort cause drivers to miss key visual and audio cues needed to avoid a crash.
