FREE South Dakota DMV Practice Test #12 Page 3 of 3
The DMV practise exams in South Dakota have been updated for January 2025. It comprises questions based on the most important traffic signals and laws for 2025 from the South Dakota Driver Handbook. To study for the DMV driving permit test and driver's licence exam, use actual questions that are very similar (often identical!) to the DMV driving permit test and driver's licence exam.
Each question on the practise exam has a tip and explanation to help you recall the ideas. Questions about traffic rules, traffic signs, and driving statutes, as well as knowledge from the Driver Handbook, will be included in the written portion of the official South Dakota DMV test.
You must properly answer 20 of the 25 questions to receive a passing mark. Use the South Dakota Department of Motor Vehicles' practise exam to help you prepare for your instruction permit or driver's licence.
The DMV exam is offered in a variety of languages.
Using any form of testing help will result in an automatic fail, and the DMV may take further action against your driver's licence, so avoid it.
17 . When driving on the highway, consistently looking far ahead of your vehicle:
To avoid the need for last-minute braking or turning, consistently watch the road far ahead of your vehicle. By looking ahead and being ready to stop or change lanes if needed, you can drive more safely, save fuel, and help keep traffic moving at a steady pace.
18 . If you have a sudden tire blowout:
If a tire suddenly goes flat while you are driving, hold the steering wheel tightly and keep the vehicle moving straight. Slow down gradually by taking your foot off the gas pedal and using the brakes lightly.
19 . If you park facing uphill where there is no curb, set the parking brake and:
When parking uphill on a road that does not have a curb, your front wheels should be turned to the right (toward the edge of the road). This will ensure that the vehicle will roll off of the road if the brakes fail.
20 . When a car with bright headlights drives toward you at night, you should:
To avoid being blinded when driving at night, do not look directly at the headlights of oncoming cars. Instead, look toward the right edge of the road until the oncoming driver has passed.
21 . This road sign means:

This sign prohibits drivers from making a U-turn. You cannot turn around to go in the opposite direction at an intersection where this sign is posted.
22 . If you approach a stopped school bus that has its lights flashing and signal arm extended, you should:
If you approach a stopped school bus that has its lights flashing and arm extended, you must come to a full stop and remain stopped until the signal arm is pulled back and the bus resumes motion. This law applies whether you are traveling in the same direction as the bus or if you are approaching from the opposite side of the street.
23 . You should always travel:
The speed at which you should drive your vehicle depends on road conditions, the weather, and the legal speed limit. You may never drive above the legal speed limit. Decrease your speed when anything makes conditions less than ideal.
24 . You exit the freeway on a ramp that curves downhill. You should:
You should always slow down before entering a curve. You may not be able to see hazards ahead and braking in a curve may cause your vehicle to skid.
25 . A sign with this shape means:

A pennant-shaped sign marks the beginning of a no passing zone.
