FREE New York DMV Practice Test #20 Page 3 of 3
New York's DMV practise examinations have been revised for January 2024. It includes questions based on the New York Driver Handbook's most significant traffic signals and legislation for 2024. Use actual questions that are very similar (often identical!) to the DMV driving permit test and driver's licence exam to study for the DMV driving permit test and driver's licence exam.
On the practise exam, each question gets a tip and explanation to help you remember the concepts. The written component of the official New York DMV test will feature questions about traffic rules, traffic signs, and driving statutes, as well as knowledge from the Driver Handbook.
To obtain a passing grade, you must correctly answer 14 of the 20 questions. Take this practise test from the New York Department of Motor Vehicles to help you prepare for your instruction permit or driver's licence.
The DMV exam is available in several languages.
Using any kind of testing assistance will result in an automatic fail, and the DMV may take additional action against your driver's licence, so stay away from it.
15 . What happens if you refuse to take a chemical test?
New York has an Implied Consent Law, which means that by driving in the state, you have given your consent to a chemical test if you are arrested for an alcohol- or drug-related violation. If you refuse to take the test, your license will be suspended. If a DMV hearing later confirms that you refused the test, your driver license will be revoked, even if you are found not guilty of the original charge.
16 . You are approaching a railroad crossing and you do not see or hear a train. You must stop:
You must always stop before crossing railroad tracks if flashing red lights are activated, a crossing gate is lowered, a stop sign is posted, a flagger signals you to stop, or a train is visible or so close to the crossing that it would be hazardous to continue driving. If you are unsure if a train is too close for you to safely cross the tracks, stop. Never race a train.
17 . If you are driving on a one-way street and an emergency vehicle using its flashing lights approaches your vehicle, you must:
If an emergency vehicle using its lights or siren approaches while you are driving on a one-way street, you must drive toward the nearest roadside and stop.
18 . A motorist approaching a bicyclist should:
Drivers should reduce their speed as they pass bicyclists, as air movement from a passing vehicle can easily affect a bicyclist's balance.
19 . Speaking into or listening to a hand-held cell phone while driving:
It is against the law in New York to speak into or listen to a hand-held cell phone while driving. You may use a hand-held phone to start or end a phone call, but further use will result in a fine and points against your license.
20 . If an approaching train is near enough or going fast enough to be a danger, you must:
You should look and listen for trains before crossing any railroad tracks. If an approaching train is near enough or going fast enough to be a danger, you cannot go across the tracks. This is true even if they have no signals or the signals are not working.
