FREE New Mexico DMV Practice Test #17 Page 2 of 3
The DMV practise exams in New Mexico have been updated for January 2024. It includes questions based on the most important traffic signals and laws for 2024 from the New Mexico Driver Handbook. To study for the DMV driving permit test and driver's licence exam, use actual questions that are very similar (often identical!) to the DMV driving permit test and driver's licence exam.
Each question on the practise exam has a tip and explanation to help you recall the ideas. Questions about traffic rules, traffic signs, and driving statutes, as well as knowledge from the Driver Handbook, will be included in the written portion of the official New Mexico DMV test.
You must properly answer 18 of the 25 questions to receive a passing mark. To help you prepare for your instruction permit or driver's licence, take this practise test from the New Mexico Department of Motor Vehicles.
The DMV exam is offered in a variety of languages.
Using any form of testing help will result in an automatic fail, and the DMV may take further action against your driver's licence, so avoid it.

10 . While driving at night, a vehicle coming toward you has its high beams on, making it hard for you to see the road ahead. You should:
If an oncoming driver fails to dim their high beams, you should avoid looking directly at the headlights. Instead, look toward the right edge of your lane and watch the oncoming vehicle out of the corner of your eye.
11 . This sign means:
Warning signs are used to warn drivers about upcoming hazardous conditions and are usually yellow with black markings. This sign tells drivers that they are approaching a school zone and that they should slow down and watch for children.
12 . When approaching a school bus stopped with its stop arm extended, drivers should:
When approaching a stopped school bus that is using its stop signal, a driver is required to come to a complete stop. They should not proceed until the stop arm is withdrawn.
13 . To prevent hydroplaning, you should:
To prevent hydroplaning, you should ensure that the tires on your vehicle have good tread depth and are inflated to the proper pressure. Reduce the speed of your vehicle when driving in the rain. Hydroplaning occurs most frequently at higher speeds.
14 . What does this road sign mean?
This sign indicates that the road may be slippery when wet. Exercise caution when driving on a slippery road.
15 . You should not make sudden stops in front of large trucks and buses because:
Large vehicles require longer distances to stop and accelerate than smaller vehicles do. Making a sudden stop in front of a large vehicle is dangerous because the other driver may not be able to stop in time to avoid a collision.
16 . Which of the following blocks the smooth flow of traffic?
Rubbernecking (the practice of slowing down to look at collisions or other out-of-the-ordinary things) contributes to traffic congestion and should be avoided.
