FREE Illinois DMV Practice Test #5 Page 3 of 3
For January 2025, this set of Illinois DMV practise tests has been updated. It includes questions based on the most important traffic signs and rules for 2025 from the Illinois Driver Handbook. To study for the DMV driving permit test and driver's licence exam, use actual questions that are very similar (often identical!) to the DMV driving permit test and driver's licence exam.
Each question on the practise exam has a tip and explanation to help you recall the ideas. Questions about traffic rules, traffic signs, and driving statutes, as well as information from the Driver Handbook, will be included in the written portion of the official DMV test.
You must properly answer 38 of the 35 questions to receive a passing mark. To help you prepare for your Illinois instruction permit or driver's licence, take our DMV practise test.
The DMV exam is offered in a variety of languages.
Using any form of testing help will result in an automatic fail, and the DMV may take further action against your driver's licence, so avoid it.

Orange is the standard color for work zone activity. If you see orange signs, cones, or barrels while driving, stay alert and be prepared for unexpected driving conditions. This sign alerts drivers to an upcoming flagger whose directions should be obeyed by all drivers.

You should expect to see bicyclists driving with traffic on the road. You should not be surprised to see a bicyclist using the left lane when turning.
29 . When changing lanes:
When changing lanes, glance over your shoulder to check for traffic in your blind spot. You may need to look several times before changing lanes. You must keep track of what traffic is doing in front of you as well as what traffic is doing in the lane next to you.
30 . Changing from one lane to another is best done:
You should always change lanes gradually and carefully. Only change lanes when necessary. Every lane change increases the possibility of a traffic accident.

33 . A solid yellow line next to a broken yellow line means that vehicles:
Yellow lines separate lanes of traffic moving in opposite directions. A broken yellow line next to your driving lane means that you may pass.
34 . A "Merging lanes" sign means drivers should be prepared to change lanes or allow other traffic to come into their lane.
A "Merging lanes" sign indicates that two lanes of traffic going the same direction will soon merge into one lane. Drivers should be ready to either change lanes or allow other traffic to merge into their lane.
35 . At a crosswalk:
Pedestrians have the right-of-way at street crossings but must obey traffic control signals. Where a traffic signal is not present, vehicles must stop for pedestrians in a crosswalk, whether it is marked or unmarked.
