FREE Illinois DMV Practice Test #10
For January 2024, this set of Illinois DMV practise tests has been updated. It includes questions based on the most important traffic signs and rules for 2024 from the Illinois Driver Handbook. To study for the DMV driving permit test and driver's licence exam, use actual questions that are very similar (often identical!) to the DMV driving permit test and driver's licence exam.
Each question on the practise exam has a tip and explanation to help you recall the ideas. Questions about traffic rules, traffic signs, and driving statutes, as well as information from the Driver Handbook, will be included in the written portion of the official DMV test.
You must properly answer 38 of the 35 questions to receive a passing mark. To help you prepare for your Illinois instruction permit or driver's licence, take our DMV practise test.
The DMV exam is offered in a variety of languages.
Using any form of testing help will result in an automatic fail, and the DMV may take further action against your driver's licence, so avoid it.
1 . Before changing lanes or attempting to pass another vehicle, you should:
Every time you want to change lanes or otherwise move your vehicle to the right or left, signal to alert other drivers to your intentions. Always check your mirrors and turn your head to check your blind spot before attempting any lateral move.
2 . A broken yellow centerline means that:
A broken yellow centerline means that a driver may cross the centerline to pass another vehicle on the left as long as there is no oncoming traffic. Drivers should never cross a solid yellow centerline in order to pass.
3 . This road sign means:
Regulatory signs provide notice to road users of traffic laws that must be obeyed. This sign tells drivers that it is prohibited to make a U-turn.
4 . When being passed by another vehicle:
When being passed, you must yield to the passing vehicle and not increase your speed. Allow the vehicle to safely merge back into your lane.
5 . When following a truck at night, it is important to dim your headlights.
You should always dim headlights when following a truck at night. Bright lights will blind the drivers of large vehicles when they reflect off the large side mirrors.
6 . This white sign means:
When approaching a railroad crossing, you must look, listen, slow down, and prepare to stop. Let any trains pass before you proceed.
7 . When on a two-lane roadway, a driver must stop their vehicle when approaching a stopped school bus with its red warning lights flashing and stop signal arm extended.
Unless the school bus is on the opposite side of a four-lane roadway, drivers are required to stop before overtaking a school bus that is loading or unloading passengers. A driver approaching a school bus from the opposite direction must come to a complete stop and remain stopped until the stop signal arm is no longer extended and the flashing lights are turned off, or the school bus driver signals vehicles to pass.
8 . You are coming to an intersection with a flashing red light. You should:
A flashing red traffic light means the same thing as a stop sign. You must come to a complete stop, yield to other traffic and pedestrians, and then proceed when it safe to do so.
9 . This sign means:
This sign marks the presence of a crosswalk. Be alert to any pedestrians that may be crossing the roadway.
10 . This road sign means:
This sign prohibits drivers from making a U-turn. You cannot turn around to go in the opposite direction at an intersection where this sign is posted.
11 . This road sign means:
Regulatory signs provide notice to road users of traffic laws that must be obeyed. Where this sign is present, drivers must drive in the direction indicated by the arrow.
12 . You can drive off the road to pass another vehicle:
You may never drive off the paved or main-traveled portion of the road and onto the shoulder to pass another vehicle.
