FREE Maine DMV Practice Test #5 Page 2 of 7
For January 2024, Maine's DMV practise exams have been updated. It includes questions based on the most important traffic signals and legislation for 2024 from the Maine Driver Handbook. To study for the DMV driving permit test and driver's licence exam, use actual questions that are very similar (often identical!) to the DMV driving permit test and driver's licence exam.
Each question on the practise exam has a tip and explanation to help you recall the ideas. Questions about traffic rules, traffic signs, and driving statutes, as well as knowledge from the Driver Handbook, will be included in the written portion of the official Maine DMV test.
You must properly answer 50 of the 60 questions to receive a passing mark. To help you prepare for your Maine instruction permit or driver's licence, take our DMV practise test.
The DMV exam is offered in a variety of languages.
Using any form of testing help will result in an automatic fail, and the DMV may take further action against your driver's licence, so avoid it.
9 . When passing an animal which is being driven, ridden, or led down a public road, drivers should:
An alert motorist can prevent accidents by slowing down and proceeding cautiously when approaching animals. It is against the law to purposefully frighten any animal being ridden, driven, or led on or near a public roadway.
10 . If a crossing guard is directing traffic in a school zone, you must:
Be prepared to reduce your speed and use caution when directed to do so by a sign, crossing guard, or law enforcement officer. Always drive with extra caution in a school zone.
11 . When approaching an intersection with a flashing red light, you must:
A flashing red traffic light means the same thing as a stop sign. When arriving at an intersection with a flashing red light, you must come to a full stop and proceed when it is safe to do so.
12 . When a school bus is picking up or dropping off children, you must:
When approaching a school bus that is picking up or dropping off passengers, you must come to a complete stop before reaching the bus, regardless of your direction of travel.
13 . To avoid the need for last-minute braking and turning, you should consistently look down the road ____ ahead of your vehicle.
To avoid the need for last-minute braking or turning, consistently look down the road 10 to 15 seconds ahead of your vehicle. Avoiding last-minute decisions will give drivers around you more time to safely react to your movements.
14 . Reaction time is slower after:
Alcohol slows your reflexes and reaction time, reduces your ability to see clearly, and makes you less alert. As the amount of alcohol in your body increases, your judgment worsens and your driving skills decrease. You will have trouble judging distances, speeds, and the movement of other vehicles.
15 . In traffic moving at 50 to 55 mph, you are least likely to have an accident if you:
You should adjust your speed to travel smoothly with the other traffic on a roadway (provided that the other traffic is driving within the posted speed limits). Remember that vehicles moving in the same direction at the same speed cannot hit each other. Crashes involving multiple vehicles often happen when some vehicles are traveling at different speeds than others.
16 . If two drivers arrive at the same time to an open intersection:
If you arrive to an open intersection at the same time as a vehicle to your right, you should yield the right-of-way to that vehicle. You may then proceed when it is safe to do so.
