FREE Maine DMV Practice Test #23 Page 7 of 7
For January 2024, Maine's DMV practise exams have been updated. It includes questions based on the most important traffic signals and legislation for 2024 from the Maine Driver Handbook. To study for the DMV driving permit test and driver's licence exam, use actual questions that are very similar (often identical!) to the DMV driving permit test and driver's licence exam.
Each question on the practise exam has a tip and explanation to help you recall the ideas. Questions about traffic rules, traffic signs, and driving statutes, as well as knowledge from the Driver Handbook, will be included in the written portion of the official Maine DMV test.
You must properly answer 50 of the 60 questions to receive a passing mark. To help you prepare for your Maine instruction permit or driver's licence, take our DMV practise test.
The DMV exam is offered in a variety of languages.
Using any form of testing help will result in an automatic fail, and the DMV may take further action against your driver's licence, so avoid it.
51 . Which of the following statements about railroad crossings is true?
You must stop at a railroad crossing when directed to do so by a flagger, stop sign, or warning devices, such as gates or flashing lights. Not all railroad crossings are equipped with such devices. It is against the law to drive around lowered railroad crossing gates.
52 . Another driver is trying to pass your car. You should:
Keep right when another driver begins to pass you on the left. Check for oncoming traffic and adjust your speed to let the passing vehicle move back into the right lane as easily as possible.
53 . This sign means:
Warning signs prepare drivers for upcoming road conditions and hazards and are usually yellow with black markings. This sign tells drivers that they may encounter traffic coming from the opposite direction.
54 . Compared to driving during the day, driving at night is:
Driving at night is more dangerous than driving during the day for several reasons. It is harder to see in the dark, you may be temporarily blinded by the glare from other vehicles' lights, and there are likely to be more drivers on the road who are tired or under the influence.
55 . An orange and red triangular sign on a vehicle always means:
Slow-moving vehicles, such as farm tractors, road maintenance vehicles, and animal-drawn carts, display an orange and red triangle on the back.
56 . You must yield to other drivers:
You must yield to other drivers when entering a street from an alley, driveway, or garage. You must also yield to pedestrians who are on an intersecting sidewalk.
57 . What message will be found on a red octagon-shaped sign?
An octagonal (eight-sided) sign always means "stop." You must always come to a complete stop at this sign.
58 . Alcohol consumption negatively affects:
Alcohol interferes with the brain’s ability to react and concentrate. A driver who has consumed alcohol is more likely to fall asleep at the wheel or drive off the roadway. The more a person drinks, the less control they have over coordinating body functions and movements.
59 . How many alcoholic drinks does it take to affect your driving ability?
It is not advisable to drive after drinking any amount of alcohol. Even a single drink will affect your ability to drive safely.
60 . If you have the right-of-way at an intersection, you should:
After stopping at an intersection, take the extra time to check for cross traffic, bicyclists, and pedestrians before proceeding. It is recommended that you look left, then right, then left again before entering an intersection. Yield your legal right-of-way any time it can prevent a collision.
